Josh-Strub-Best-Lawyer-2024

Josh is a skilled construction lawyer with in-house counsel experience. His degree in civil engineering allows him to grasp complex technical issues and provide high-quality legal advice that is both efficient and effective. Josh has acted as counsel in leading and supporting roles on numerous court and arbitration proceedings involving construction and infrastructure disputes with claim values ranging up to and in excess of $1 billion. He is well-versed in alternative dispute resolution processes and is regarded for developing creative solutions to help clients achieve negotiated settlements without incurring the significant expense of litigation or arbitration.

Josh’s practice is multifaceted. He represents claimants and defendants in a wide range of construction and infrastructure disputes in court, arbitration, and adjudication. He also provides clients with front-end contract strategy, drafting, and negotiation services, as well as high-value course-of-project advice. Josh is a Canadian leader in collaborative Alliance Contracting and was involved in the pursuit of Canada’s first transit Alliance Contract.

Josh’s expertise in the highly complex transit industry is unparalleled. He has unique experience and expertise representing clients involved in subway, light rail, high-speed rail, freight rail, and commuter rail construction projects, including the complex train, signaling, and other critical hardware and software systems and their integration. His particular expertise in this field has led to him being retained by clients to act as co-counsel on transit projects outside of Canada and North America.

Prior to co-founding Margie Strub Construction Law, Josh managed the nationwide legal affairs for Canada’s largest full-service track and signal construction and maintenance provider. In this role, he focused on the pursuit, contract negotiation, project execution, and claim phases of some of Canada’s highest-profile transit infrastructure projects. Before that, he began his legal career at a mid-sized construction law firm in Toronto, representing clients across Canada in complex infrastructure disputes.

In addition to transit, Josh maintains a robust practice in a wide range of industries, including energy and battery projects, high-rise residential, transportation, mining, commercial, and manufacturing, and healthcare. Although his practice is primarily focused in Ontario, it extends beyond the borders of both Ontario and Canada.

Josh is a frequent writer and speaker at industry functions and conferences, is an active member of multiple Ontario Bar Association section executives, is a member-at-large of the Canadian Bar Association’s Construction Law Section executive, is a Board Member and the Chair of the Facilities and Physical Plant Committee of Camp Ramah in Canada, and is the General Counsel to the Transit Rail Association for Canadian Contractors, Maintainers and Standards (TRACCS). Additionally, Josh co-founded the Construction Law course at Western Law in London, Ontario which he continues to teach annually.
