Gary’s practice is multifaceted with a focus on construction arbitration and adjudication. His extensive Canadian and international experience allows him to provide practical and actionable advice at all levels of the construction pyramid. Gary’s approach is focused on dispute avoidance by helping clients achieve negotiated settlements.

Gary routinely serves as an advisor to senior executives and internal counsel to provide them with solution-driven support during the lifetime of their projects, by helping them better understand their rights and identifying legal and commercial risks, so that informed commercial decisions can be made in an effective, timely, and cost-efficient manner.

When disputes do arise, Gary has represented clients across the construction spectrum, including major infrastructure projects with a focus on light rail, mining, and high-rise residential and mixed-use buildings. Gary has more than 15 years of experience pursuing and defending construction claims for delay, disruption, and deficiencies, working closely with subject matter experts on disputes involving complex technical matters. Gary’s arbitration experience includes disputes under, ICC, LCIA, ADRIC, DIAC, ADCCAC, DIFC-LCIA, UNICITRAL and ad hoc rules.

Before Gary immigrated to Canada, he spent a decade in Dubai. During this time, he worked as in-house counsel for a prominent property developer delivering landmark real estate projects and master developments across the emirate. Gary assisted project teams with contract negotiation, project execution, and prosecuting and defending claims. In addition to Gary’s front-end construction experience, he also worked in private practice managing complex construction disputes on some of Dubai’s highest-profile residential, commercial and entertainment projects.

Gary frequently writes articles on pressing industry issues and has moderated panel discussions with leading industry experts. He has been a guest lecturer at the Osgoode LLM Construction Law course and currently serves as secretary on The Advocates’ Society Construction Law Practice Group.
